4 Stars Inexperienced drivers need not apply
First of all, here are the good points for this game:a very nice selection of cars, from a Ford Focus and Mitsubishi Eclipse to a Nissan Skyline GT-R. All are quite customizable, with special hoods, roof scoops, wheel rims, and side skirts. Special decals broadcasting who modified your car can be placed on the doors and windshield. Add your own decals like stripes, flames, etc. on your car as well. Some in my own opinion make the car look worse, not better, but like I said, that’s a matter of opinion. Performance modifications like turbos and nitro can be added as well. I got my own car to around 206 mph from these upgrades. If you do well enough, some of the characters in the game will challenge you to a time trial. Win and you get a free body or engine upgrade; lose and you get nothing.

The tracks themselves are a bit interesting as well. There are circuit, point-to-point races, as well as drag and drift events. In the circuit and point-to-point races, you should notice shortcuts along the way. Take them for extra points. Some are simple, like cutting corners, others involve flying (literally) through parking garages under construction. Note: if you use an automatic transmission, practice with a manual before you try this game. The drag races are manual transmission only.

The bad parts are as follows: I know it is called Underground for a reason, but I would like to see some daytime racing instead of only night time. Also, quite often the gap between me and the guy in 2nd was between 0.03 to 0.94 seconds or so, hence the title for this review. That was with the easy level too. Hard can be won, it just takes a few more restarts. One other thing is that the opponents in this game are not afraid of contact with you or the wall, so long as they go faster.

So, this is not a bad game, just be ready to take a few hits and provide some yourself in the later parts of the game, but don’t worry, there is no damage in this game.

5 Stars Fun for a 17 yr old
So I bought the game a few weeks ago off the internet. Was it worth the $4 I payed for it? Heck yea!

Easily the best part is modding the cars. There’s a pretty big selection of cars, at least big enough for me.

The lack of tracks though kind of irritates me. There’s about 5 tracks total for circuit mode, but usually you have to run them in reverse or “mirrored” so it seems like there are tons of tracks. Some tracks are hard though.

The farther you progress in Underground mode, the harder it gets. It’s more of an arcade style racing game. I like it better than Project Gotham Racing 2. Probably because PGR2 is very realistic and you have to really get on the brakes in the corners. In NFSU, you can take turns at higher speeds and it’s more fun than hitting the breaks all the time.

It’s a very deep game and I’ve probably played it about 20 hours so far and I havent beaten it yet. I would definitely recommend it.

5 Stars What is wrong with this game??
I don’t see why some reviews don’t like it. It is fun and fast. yOu play DIFFERENT levels in the game. I haven’t even finsihed it and i got it last year. That’s because this is really competative and fun. You can play in two player mode and go head to head. The songs are sucky though! The are the worst! My dad’s heard bad language in some and the beat is stupid. Everythign would have been perfect is it wasn’t for the stupid and sucky songs!!!!:(:(:(:(:

1 Star SUCKIE! SUCKIE!SUCKIE!
THIS WAS ONE OF MY FIRST GAME, IT SUCKS, THE CARS HANDLE BAD, NOS JUST SUCKS. IF YOU WANT A GOOD CAR GAME MIDNIGHT CLUB 3, THATS GOOD, BUT BACK TO THE SUCKIE GAME, OH YEAH DID I SAY THAT IT SUCKS, BECAUSE IT SUCKS, FIRST IT’S FUN, THE GOES DOWNHILL. STAY AWAY FROM IT. OH YEAH DID I SAY IT SUCKS?

4 Stars NFS:U
Well, it’s a good game. I’ve unlocked everything and am working on Underground mode. One thing I looked at though. 2001 Project Gotham Racing with Kudos scoring system. 2003 Need for Speed: Underground Style Points. So I decided to replay my copy of PGR. You can gain Style Points for almost all the same tricks as in PGR too. Very similar, quite unoriginal. Other than that, great!

5 Stars LOVE this game…
This game turned me on to racing games. I love it, and the newer versions don’t really do much more for me than this one. The music was great for it, too.

3 Stars Forza Motorsport vs. Project Gotham Racing 2
I bought this game because it was supposed to be better than Forza Motorsport, which I already played and liked, and I only had an xbox. I would have bought Forza Motorsport 2 if it were on xbox. The game has a pretty good array of cars but the game is more to complete challenges than to race. For example, the challenges that you have to complete are street race, one on one, cone challenge, hot lap, overtake, and speed camera. The races are only 5-10 minutes long if that. The goal is to get points doing different stunts like sliding. The courses are all in cities and you can’t go off the road. The damage you take throughout the race does not effect your driving it only effects how many points you get. In conclusion I would rather have Forza than PGR 2.

5 Stars Forget NASCAR, It’s Gotham Baby
Project Gotham Racing is a great game. It’s fun, it’s fantastic, and it looks stellar. It’s everything you could ask for in a racing game.

4 Stars best car racing game ever!! but…..
this is one of the best car racing game ive ever had!!!!! is sooo adicting. the graphics are extremly good! the gameplay is freaking good! and the cars…..love them!!!! they have every single car that i love. but beyond all that the details of the cars and the sound is just great.

but there is one really big big problem….ive did like more than 20 races and beat them all. but when ever i tried to go to the next race while is loading the game stops and says that is dirty or scrach. when i opened the xbox i didnt saw not even 1 little scrach. so i though it might be the console, but when i tried my other game that it was a lot lot more dirty then it is as the pgr2 it worked perfectly. i have lots of friends that have the same problem, that really turn me off!!!! careful this game is not well made!

1 Star Sluggish control
I did not enjoy this game. Compared to a game such as Need for Speed – Most Wanted, it’s controls were sluggish and the graphics inferior. I purchased this game for a few bucks at Amazon and sold it for about the same a few weeks later.

5 Stars This game is great
This is definately a game worth your money. If you’re a fan of the other need for speed games you will probably love this one. This is all about the cops. Get chased, wreck things and you’ll have no problem with the game. You say the game is too short, it’s not. There are multiple game types and you can play it over and over and never have the same chase. Overall this is a great game.

4 Stars it took a while
it took soome time before i got this one but i like it. thanks.

3 Stars Better Than regular edition; BUT!!!!!
I have all the need for speed games as well as 6 working consoles ; this is great for the x-box ,however if you go by the guide or read the hype it has about 10 or so ,very good cars “Automatic” from the jump meaning beginning of the game Yes;BUT ;only in exhibition or proper term Quick race mode ,SO WHAT!! Also if you have a 360 It makes this puppy look like it was made on the ps2 ,the graphics are off the hook on the 360 !!! this is OK FOR THE X-Box and the dvd is cool since it does have the very fine Josie Maran / i would say this is a cool collectors set for the X-box ONLY ,i wished it had been made for the 360…But yes it is a lot of fun and much better than the tedious NFSU2.. AND ; yes it is true if you have a NFSU2 game save on your X ,then yes you get an automatic 10 grand to help with a car purchase or parts :-) That Is All..

4 Stars Very nice
I love this game. It’s a blast to race in and to drive around. But I still find that NFSU…the first one…had a lot more excitement and fun in it. Even though MW is a blast, it no where compares to NFSU. I do love the free roam. I believe free roam should be a must in any game. To be able to take your modified ride and just cruise around…that’s nice indeedy! =) But MW is an extremely well-made game with a good amount of attention to detail. For NFS fans, I highly recommend it. If you haven’t bought NFSU part 1 yet, I recommend it first.

4 Stars Not a sim, and not NFSU 3 but still a good game
OK lets get something straight about this game

# 1. It is not NFS:U 3!

This game is NOT about the racing, it is about the chases.

Get your car tuned the way you like it and avoid accidents

and walls and the races are easy to beat.

# 2. This is NOT a simulation !

Running roadblocks, getting rammed head on by Rhino SUV’s,

colliding with other cars and walls at 200+ mph, if this were

a true ‘simulation’ there would be no ‘BUSTED’ vid clips

because the only thing to bust would be a greasy smear on the

pavement. An all inclusive physics engine would be

impractical for this kind of game and shouldn’t be expected.

# 3. Still an EXCELLENT game !

While I do miss all of the tuning options from NFS:U 2 that

game is all about the racing and excells within that scope.

But as I said NFS:MW is all about the chases, plotting escape

routes, and avoiding all of the insane tactics the cops throw

at you is at times a huge challenge and I love every second

of it. The reason I gave the game a 4 instead of a 5 is

because it should have Day/Night driving during the day all

the time does get old after a while plus I think nighttime

chases with limited visibility could make the game more

interesting.

3 Stars Tokyo Xtreme Racer back again..
i loved this game on Dreamcast back in 2000/01 with its Strictly Highway races that had you win by a Lead instead of racing from point A to B. this formula made racing a BLAST as it was suspenseful and never got Boring. also, the A.I. and Difficulty of the game kept you Challenged. this game is more of the same.

Pros:

-the graphics are Beautiful

-the map is Big Enough so you dont get Bored with the game too quickly

-the handling of the car is the Most Realistic, unlike alot of Current games out today

-the Customization is sure to Satisfy

-you can take your car Online and race against other racers tricked out cars as well

-the Races are just FUN.

Cons:

-theres no button to Look Around You when your racing, your stuck with the Front view and can never Gaze at the city as it goes by..but the Replay Mode should satisfy you i guess.

-the music could have been BETTER, they should have had more Electronica but the music is OKAY, it wont bother you too much.

besides that, this is a game that Well holds its own with the likes of Midnight Club LA, Burnout Paradise, Need For Speed: Undercover, and like Those games, its a game you can just Pick Up and Play..you dont HAVE to customize the crap out of the car to win races. its exactly like the Old School Tokyo Xtreme Racers though..so you dont have to track back and get those games, this game is Exactly like it with better graphics..but the same Awesome gameplay.

iLL .

3 Stars Shutokou Battle X; Import Tuner Challenge
Pretty good, but could do wihtout the silly bluring (speed distortion?).

Also a bit of a bummer not having the rest of the Wangan, Yokohane line, Yokohama Kanjou, or the Hanshin or Nagoya-city freeways.

4 Stars TXR fans
this game is only a really good game if you have played the TXR racing series and like them. This game is very similar and is def just as addicting as the first ones. There are a few downfalls though. There are only like 10 cars, so you will be racing 300 cars that are the same cars throughout. Also the graphics dont appear to be 360 graphics except for your which you can modify a decent amount. One really good upgrade besides the addition of a few minor highways, is th parking area. The PA is where you will find racers parked and ready to race. Just as the last TXR games, there are many wanderers and still is a pain in the a$$ to figure out there requirements. I suggest trying to find a strategy guide if you plan on racing the Datsun that appears after all racers are beat.

If your a TXR fan and looking for a cheap and fun game then I recommend this game. Its pretty fun racing your way to the top of tokyos highways.

1 Star import tuner challenge
The people that rated this game over a 1 must have one to sell. This game was a joke. If they had a 0 rating that’s what I would give it. I bought it last month for 20.00 and I felt like I got ripped off. I did however get 35.00 trade-in at blockbuster. I would advice anyone who purchased this to do the same because the price will definately drop SOON.This game looked worst than the Tokyo drifter series on ps2. I would not recommend this game for anyone. Tom B

5 Stars Excellent Game! Excellent Cars! TONS of races!
To feed my Forza Motorsport 2 hunger, I decided to purchase this game. I’m a big fan of Japanese cars. All my cars are Japanese. Import Tuner focuses on…you guessed it…import cars, mainly Japanese brand cars- Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Mazda, and Nissan. People ask..so where’s Honda? Licensing issues prevented Genki developers from including Honda.

This game delivers TONS of customizations. You can basically calibrate and modify your car based on parts you buy. However, buying upgrade parts for your car isn’t that easy. All upgrade parts are level-based meaning you need to beat a boss or win races against a few rival teams to get a new level of parts to purchase. Parts don’t come cheap so just racing one rival after another won’t get you the goods you need once you face a fully-modified car. You’ll have to go back and find a rival team you already beat and race him over and over until you get enough credit points to purchase the parts.

The game requires a lot of patience since you’ll be pitted against every import car. There are two ways of challenging rivals. You either hit the streets and challenge OR you can go to the parking area and challenge racers there. To beat the game, you’ll have to challenge both street racers and those who hangout by the parking lot.

The tracks are based on real highways in Japan. All the the highways have been faithfully recreated in this game. Now…since this is a race along freeway, you won’t be using much of your drifting skills here since you won’t find any hairpin turns. Most of the turns are like the Exit ramps you take on our Interstate highways here in the US. This should give you an idea on what’s in store for you. Majority of the tracks here are straightways, a few exit ramps turns will test your turning skills. Don’t be fooled though. You’ll be faced with traffic on the highways. There will trucks and cars driving merrily along the highway while you’re speeding at 200mph. The traffic will sharpen your skills on avoidance and overtaking. The game is quite tough on errors you make. You hit a car or a railing and chances are the rival driver will be right on your tail.

There are two modes of races here: SP battles and Time Attack. SP battles are like health meters. The farther the rival is ahead of you, the faster your health meter goes down. You hit a railing or a car and that penalizes your SP meter. The object of SP battle is to run your rival’s SP meter dry. That means you’ll have to outrace him or punish him by trapping him on a lane where a slow moving vehicle is right in front of him and then you accelerate at high speed to leave him behind. You can use traffic to your advantage by nudging the rival car on the side and pushing him towards an embankment. I know it’s bad but hey…you gotta win by any means necessary. Time attack on the other hand is simply a race to the finish line. Why it’s called Time attack just boggles the mind. This game was made in Japan so expect some translation hiccups here and there. Poorly translated Japanese terms abound in this game so expect to see weird rival names like Betelguese of the Night, Mundane Omnipotent, Cornering Opera, Mundane Zeus, Astellion Flower, and my favorite… Cat X Cat.

Graphics was where I was a bit disappointed. Genki didn’t use the full power of the Xbox360. Somehow it didn’t look quite next-gen to me. Also, there are horrible frame rate issues. The game just grinds to a stuttering frame rate when you have three or four rivals on screen. There are a few drawing issues as well. Sometimes, while driving, you’ll notice that there’s just a black empty space at the end of the ramp. Fear not, the game suffers from redrawing issues. But these issues shouldn’t deter you from playing this game. AI is something that’s a so-so. You will find rivals who drive like Ms. Daisy or sometimes against a rival who drives like Mario Andretti, Nicki Lauda, and Colin McRae. Most of the AI seem to be afraid to take the risk of making sharp turns at full speed. They seem to brake quite a few meters too far from the turn’s entry point. As a result, you can easily take advantage of this and cut in front of them.

So…what’s a good gaming tip here. Like any other tuner games, there are three things you need to focus on to win in this game: SPEED, WEIGHT, AND HANDLING. That means you need to upgrade your engine, your body, and your suspension. Don’t dwell too much on making your car look like Fast and Furiousque. Concentrate first on winning a few races and invest on the three main aspects of the car. ANy part that will make your car 100lbs heavier should be compensated by a body upgrade that will make it lighter. I’ve beaten this game by using just one car.

Here’s what I did: I purchased the Nissan Fairlady (fastest among the cheapest starter cars). I raced the hell out of it and upgraded it. Then I began challenging several rivals over and over again till I was winning 500K credit points per race. Once I got to about 4 million credit points, I bought my favorite and possibly the fastest tuner car in the game: Mitsubishi Evolution IX. I then sold my Fairlady and then upgraded the engine to the highest possible level I could get. Slowly I began upgrading the three main aspects of the car. By the time I got to about 80% of game completion, I was beating every car and rival I was up against. The Mitsubishi Evolution is by far the best tuner car I have ever dealt with, be it Forza Motorsport or Import Tuner. Try the Evolution and win every race.

In closing, this game is highly recommended. It has it’s own technical issues but the fun factor is definitely in the game. Go for it.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars My favorite game of all time
Wow, I can play this game for hours on end. It’s just awesome. So many different things to do. The police chases keep you on the edge of your chair and the good ones can go on 30 minutes to an hour of adrenaline infused joy. Everyone I have ever let play this game has loved it. The only thing that I see getting better over time is the graphics which I think are fine on the original Xbox version but will be fun to see improve with technology. Hopefully they won’t ruin the game in the process. When I think of how much incredible play time this game has given me and to think back to the days of pumping quarters into arcade games, the value of this game is truly amazing.

One tip, if you are in career mode and hate getting penalized every time you have fun and get busted in a police chase, just shut off you xbox during the video of clip of you getting hand-cuffed. Your game will still remember the progress of where you were in your career before starting the chase but will not acknowledge or penalize you for getting busted.

4 Stars Great game
Excellent follow up game for those who’ve player the prior Need for speed:Underground. This is a far better game (in my opinion) than the latest Need for Speed: Carbon.

4 Stars Another great NFS
Just like the last few Need For Speed games, this is awesome. There are plenty of fun race modes and the run ins with the police are very fun. NFS made a great change from Underground 2 by giving the player the option to jump straight to the race instead of driving around the large map to find the next race (which you can also do if you choose). The rides aren’t as customizable as Underground, but that’s not really what this game is about anyway. The graphics are great, especially the cut scenes and the sound effects are cool, too. The acting, as always, is terrible, but who really cares, that’s not why we play NFS. I’ve gotten many many hours of game play out of this one, and I’m still only about half way through the game. This is a great buy for any racing game fan.

5 Stars wickedly AWSOME
i first rented this and loved it so i had to get it and when i found out how cheap this was i fell out of my chair!! i defnitly rate this 100% bad ass

4 Stars pretty good racing game
The amount of cutscenes is low, for some reason. Other than that, Need for Speed Most Wanted gives us mostly fast-paced racing action that you are sure to come back to again and again.

The difficulty is the main problem with the game. Cars can come out of nowhere and get in the lead in no time at all, even if you think you’re fully in the lead. It’s not really fair and that’s the only problem I have.

Pick up this excellent racing game to see how driving around can be a lot of fun.
